IMG_20131112_081653_064Corn harvest has once again come to a screeching halt. Can’t blame the rain this time, today it’s snow causing the delay. Yes, winter has arrived a little early. We’re also dealing with daytime temperatures in the 20’s, which is hard on the machinery parked outside where we left it yesterday morning in the field. Running snow through the combine can cause all sorts of problems with the machine. The small pieces tend to stick together and form a type of paste that will plug up and can lead to damage. So the game plan is to wait until the snow melts from the corn plant, which might take awhile. Until then we’ll stay busy running the grain dryer and moving corn from bin to bin. The weatherman says that temperatures will rise again by the end of the week. We just need a few good days to finish – we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
